How many times have you’ve been to the Arctic and which specific regions?
My first Arctic journey took me to Northern Norway aboard the S/V Rembrandt van Rijn, where I experienced the stunning fjords, remote islands, and the Northern lights. My second Arctic expedition was to Spitsbergen, aboard the M/V Ortelius. There, I witnessed dramatic glaciers, towering cliffs, and an incredible array of wildlife, including polar bears and walruses. My third Arctic adventure was a land-based visit to Iceland representing Oceanwide Expeditions at an adventure conference. Each of these trips deepened my appreciation for the Arctic’s stunning natural beauty.
Do you have a favourite Arctic destination and why?
All Arctic destinations that I visited are exceptional, however, Spitsbergen truly stands out, offering majestic fjords, astounding ice formations, and some of the densest populations of polar bears on the planet. Next to that, taking an expedition to Spitsbergen means experiencing snow-swept peaks, rolling tundra, and dramatically cut coastlines. Resulting in loads of opportunities for hiking, snowshoeing, and many other outdoor activities.
What was your favourite time during the season and why?
My favourite time of the year in the Arctic is the summer solstice, around late June. Experiencing the Arctic under the Midnight Sun is absolutely phenomenal. The endless daylight creates a magical atmosphere, allowing for extended exploration and breath-taking scenery at all hours.
What is your favourite thing to do or a favourite place to visit in the Arctic?
One of my absolute favourite experiences in the Arctic is being in the pack ice. Drifting through this frozen wilderness, surrounded by vast expanses of ice, is both humbling and awe-inspiring. And then, spotting a polar bear in the distance is simply amazing. It’s a true reminder of the Arctic’s raw beauty. There’s nothing quite like it—it’s pure, untouched wilderness at its most breath-taking.
The most memorable moment you’ve worked/travelled to the Arctic.
Same as above question.
Your top tips for the travel advisors.
When booking Arctic expedition voyages, it’s essential to match clients with the right experience and vessel. Smaller expedition vessels, like those operated by Oceanwide Expeditions, offer the best wildlife and nature experiences with their small-scale, immersive approach. Since expedition cruises sell out quickly, early booking is recommended to secure the best cabins and itineraries.
