Which expedition cruise company do you work for?

What do you think sets your company apart from other expedition cruise operators?

I love the fact that Aqua is a boutique small luxury expedition cruise company. By “small,” I mean we have just five vessels, with a new one launching in December 2025. While this might seem like a large company, we started in 2007 with just one Amazon River cruise. Our smaller size, compared to other companies, allows us to continue providing a highly personalized customer service, a one-to-one guest-to-crew ratio, and the ability to carefully design each boat. Additionally, the flexibility we offer to our trade partners also makes a significant difference, ensuring a more tailored experience for our guests and a closer relationship and approach with our partners.
Do you have a favourite destination that you always recommend to first-time expedition cruisers and if so, which destination is it?

This is a tough one. My first experience aboard an expedition cruise was with Aqua Expeditions. On my first day, I was invited to visit the Amazon and experience first-hand our luxury Aqua Nera. It was my first time on a cruise, so I have great memories of that journey. The wildlife and nature were simply incredible. Having said that, I think it depends on what the guest is looking for, I always take the time to listen to their wishes, preferences, motivation and interests. For those who enjoy diving, snorkelling, and beaches, I’d recommend Aqua Blu in Indonesia or Aqua Mare in the Galapagos. For those interested in wildlife, Aqua Nera and Aqua Mare provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences that guests cannot miss.
If you could design your dream expedition cruise itinerary, what would it include?
I think I would choose the 21-night itinerary we currently offer in Indonesia, from Raja Ampat to Flores, for 2026. It has everything I want: adventure, water activities, an amazing gastronomic experience, plus the rich culture and history of the Spice Islands and the incredible wildlife of Komodo National Park. It’s a perfect blend of nature, culture, and adventure, with a mix of activities for every interest.
What are your top three travel hacks for making the most out of an expedition cruise?
· Pack Smart and Light: I recommend bringing versatile, comfortable and light clothing. The atmosphere on board is very relaxed, and we offer free laundry service aboard. Don’t forget travel essentials like waterproof bags, sturdy shoes, hats, binoculars and sun protection.
· Be ready for adventure: Every experience aboard will be a lifetime adventure. You will have a variety of daytime activities—diving, photography, kayaking, cycling, and more. There's never a dull moment, so come prepared for an active experience.
· Make the most of the time with your expert guides: Attend briefings and talks on time to gain deeper insights into the places you’re visiting. Our expert local guides know every region like the back of their hand and can offer unique perspectives on wildlife, culture, and history that will enrich your experience.
Which lesser-known destination do you think deserves more attention from travellers?

While the Amazon and Latin America may not be "lesser known," they are often underappreciated in the media. An Amazon River expedition is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. By traveling there, you’re not only experiencing a unique ecosystem but also supporting local communities—jobs are created, and conservation efforts are supported. Visiting this region has an undeniable impact on preserving the environment. Another destination that deserves more attention is the Spice Islands; Joanna Lumley did a wonderful documentary on ITV about it. While it is not as well-known as Bali, Komodo, or Raja Ampat, the Spice Islands offer a very rich history, incredible culture, and warm, welcoming people. I believe it is a destination that should be on any traveller’s bucket list.
If you could only visit one destination for the rest of your life, which would it be?

I would choose our new 2025 destination—Seychelles to Zanzibar. I’ve never been to Africa or the Indian Ocean, but after seeing the videos and photos, it looks like paradise. The combination of water activities, adventure, food, and culture makes it the perfect destination for me. I’m especially excited to see our new vessel sail in this beautiful region soon.
The one thing you take with you wherever you travel:
My laptop. I’m always on the move, and I try to be available for my trade partners for any questions they might have. Thanks to our free Starlink Wi-Fi service, I can work from onboard, keeping up with emails, bookings, and everything else while I travel. It’s crucial for staying connected and responsive, even when I’m onboard.
